Social Skills Groups

Peer relationships are complicated, filled with endless social nuances, cliques, and challenges. Some kids learn to navigate the social world easily, while others struggle to no avail. In order to develop successful social relationships, many skills are necessary: engaging the other person, small talk, sharing the appropriate amount of information, making jokes, reading nonverbal cues, controlling impulses, understanding implicit social rules, being able to join a new group, and being able to maintain a friendship.

Our social support program targets your child’s specific skill deficits and works with them to build and practice skills so they are able to have an enjoyable social life. The aim of our groups is to help your child build the skills they need to identify peer groups that they authentically connect with and to have the skills to be a valued member of their groups. No matter how well a child is doing academically, without friends, school and life are much less enjoyable.

Our Social Skills Groups run weekly for 1.5 hours and repeat each month. Groups are provided on an ongoing basis and members sign up monthly. The focus of our groups is to develop social and social cognitive skills in a safe and supported environment where children have the opportunity to learn and practice with age and developmentally matched peers. Groups have up to 6 participants and 1-2 facilitators. Paraprofessionals are welcome to attend and offer support.
