How the Process Works

Getting Started
The process begins when you contact us. Dr. Tolk speaks to you via phone to understand exactly what is going on, and how we can help. She carefully considers all aspects of your family’s needs as well as our staff’s skills, personality and schedules to help create the best team for your family. She learns about your family, your strengths and struggles, what you have tried so far, and details of what worked or did not work. The goal of this phone call is to understand the difficulties you are experiencing, to match you with the right team member, to decide what services would be most beneficial, and how to best work together.

The First Appointment
The first appointment is our opportunity to get a thorough understanding of your family’s challenges and strengths. Often, with our families, there are many complicated factors contributing to the situation. We do our best to observe, ask targeted questions, get a comprehensive developmental history, and deeply listen to understand how best we can offer help. We read and review copies of any assessments, reports, IEP documents, or other relevant information to develop a more complete understanding of your child and their needs. After the first appointment, we do our best to contact any other relevant team members that are working with your family.

The Program
Keeping your child’s spirit and needs front and center, we design your custom program. We strive to alleviate suffering and help to create new neural pathways that lead to a happier and more fulfilling existence. Our programs target all areas of development including cognitive, social, motor, self-help and independent living skills, communication, sensory integration, and executive functioning. Additionally, we address behaviors that interfere with your child’s ability to reach their full potential. An ABA team typically consists of a program director, a program manager and a paraprofessional. The program director creates the program and oversees it to ensure progress. The program manager updates the program, provides weekly parent consultation and support, and provides paraprofessional supervision 2 hours per week. The paraprofessional works directly with your child 10-30 hours per week.

Ongoing Program Development
We regularly monitor the progress you and your child are making to maximize results. We will make ongoing modifications as needed to the program, depending on how quickly success is reached or if certain areas need more attention. We meet with you regularly to go over progress, program changes, and your concerns. If you are billing insurance we update and resubmit a comprehensive treatment plan between 2 and 6 times per year. If at any time, you have questions or concerns, please reach out to communicate with us. We have an open door policy and want to make sure your needs are getting met.
