ABA
Our view of autism is person centered and our goal is to help each person be skilled enough to make themselves happy. We view autistic people as neurodivergent. We help children learn skills that will support them to be successful on their own unique path through this world. Having listened to autistic adults, we choose not to address behaviors that lead to further dysregulation, like forcing eye contact or suppressing stimulatory behavior. Instead, our primary focus is on emotional regulation. When a child is regulated, they are willing and able to take on learning new skills in a way that leads to ownership and mastery.
We focus on building skills so that a child may learn to achieve their own goals. We start with the sensory system and work closely with Occupational Therapists to determine what your child’s sensory needs are to maintain regulation. We then layer on a developmental perspective, knowing that each child develops in their own way and at their own pace. We break complex skills down into their component parts and build precursor skills, before layering on more complex tasks. For us, ABA is not about fitting your child into a box for insurance companies. Because we do not bill insurance companies directly, we have the ability to customize a program for your child. We are relational in our approach and our kids like and connect with the members of their team.
